BookGive

Like a food bank, but for books!

A Denver-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, BookGive’s mission is to promote literacy in the local area and spark a lifelong love of reading. BookGive collects new and gently used books from the community and the book industry to distribute to individuals, schools, and metro Denver nonprofits, including homeless shelters, safe houses, prisons, and retirement homes.

Founded by BookBar owner Nicole Sullivan in 2019, BookGive was born of BookBar’s years of donating thousands of books to schools and nonprofits. After it became apparent the indie bookstore could no longer oversee the book donations on its own, BookGive was established to focus on the growing donation efforts.

BookGive is headed by executive director Melissa Monforti, and operates out of a renovated 1940s-era service station at 49th and Lowell in Denver’s Regis neighborhood where anyone is welcome to peruse the collection and take free books during open hours.
