About Us

The Publishing Arm of BookBar

BookBar Press is the publishing arm of BookBar, Denver’s beloved indie bookstore. We are so excited to expand our services for supporting our writing community!

Our mission:

  • To grow, support, and partner with the regional and local author community

  • To cultivate community connection

  • To contribute to the literary world by championing unheard voices

Each year we will publish a small number of titles under the BookBar Press imprint. We will also be launching author services to help writers and authors who prefer an alternative path to publishing.

Get to know us better! Connect with BookBar Press on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter!

Nicole Sullivan,
Founder and Publisher

Nicole Sullivan's love of all things books and reading led her to open BookBar in Spring 2013. After studying Culinary Arts at the Colorado Art Institute, she knew books, food and wine would make a great combination. She is also the owner of BookBed (the author's bed and breakfast above BookBar), and Read Club Hub (the online site that matches readers to book clubs); founder of BookGive, the non-profit arm of BookBar.

She proudly serves on the Boards of Directors of Mountains and Plains Independent Booksellers Association and Tennyson Street Local Maintenance District. She holds a BA in Anthropology from the University of Colorado and lives just a short bike ride from her store with her husband Ryan, 15-year-old son Jack, 13-year-old daughter Stella, and way too many (but also not enough) pets.

Heather Garbo,
Founding Publishing Director

Heather Garbo has worked in communications for two decades spanning the worlds of publishing, marketing, and nonprofit. She hails from the Detroit area and moved to Colorado in 1999 to attend the University of Denver Publishing Institute. In recent years Heather launched the hyperlocal website Denver Dweller to encourage patronizing indie businesses. She gets embarrassingly excited when talking about books she loves, community-building, supporting local businesses, and her cargo bike.

Heather holds an MA from the University of Colorado at Denver, a BA from Michigan State University, and lives a two-minute walk from BookBar with her husband, two sons, and the world’s sweetest boxer.
